Heidi Blattel-Brennan, LCSW
Finding the right therapist is a challenging journey; just making the first phone call can be very difficult. I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is an important factor in having a successful therapeutic relationship. It’s essential to find a therapist that you can trust, that can help you navigate through difficult life situations while providing an objective perspective.
I believe in working with people’s strengths and empowering them to live their life being fully present and engaged. In every session my focus is always on creating a safe atmosphere where clients feel comfortable enough to express whatever feelings they’re experiencing without the fear of judgment or guilt. It is within that umbrella of trust that people report feeling truly heard and understood, some for the first time in their lives.
I have worked in the mental health field for 27+ years in community mental health and private practice settings. I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University and an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology from Mt. St. Mary’s University.
I have clinical training in the area of cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, solution focused therapy, ego states therapy, IFS and EMDR. I also believe that people need ways to cope with life stress outside of the therapy session. I feel it is important to teach clients and encourage them to use mindfulness practices, breathing exercises, journaling and meditation to help them feel balanced in their daily lives.
I work with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, simple and complex trauma, mood regulation, low self-esteem, stress management, grief issues, divorce, blended families, substance abuse, addictions and ADHD with adults and children.
The clients I see range from pre adolescents (ages 10-12), adolescents, young adults to older adults. I see clients for individual, family and couples therapy.
